The Asset Management Unit (“the AMU”) was established by the Custody, Management and Disposal of Seized, Forfeited or Confiscated Properties Act, 2021 and forms part of the Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade (“the Ministry”).
The AMU and the Ministry are committed to protecting the privacy of all individuals that are seeking to register for, or take part in, Live Public Auctions or other sale processes organised by the AMU.
All prospective bidders and participants of Live Public Auctions and other sale processes organised by the AMU are required to provide their consent for the processing of their personal data. Such consent must be provided as part of the online registration process.
This Privacy Policy lets you know how we collect, process, use, store, and share your personal information, and also describes your rights in relation to this information.
What data we collect
Information we collect from you
We collect information that you submit to us online or otherwise provide to us face-to-face, over the telephone, or by email.

• personal details (e.g. name, date of birth and National Identity Number (NIN));
• contact details (e.g. phone number, email address, address);
• transaction information (e.g. bidding or purchase records, information about items you purchase);
• details about the collection of items you purchase;
• financial information (e.g. bank account or bank transfer details);
• usernames and passwords;
• user IDs;
• unique device IDs;
• insurance details; and
• identification information (e.g. photographic identification documents and proof of address).
We rely on the information you provide to us or that we may otherwise collect or observe about your individual interactions with us, e.g. if you attend a Live Public Auction, participate in another sales channel, become a client, or register online.
Information we collect from other sources
We may also collect information about you from other sources. The types of information we collect about you from other sources include:
• your public profile information; and
• Information or results relating to certain verification checks that we may be required to carry out by law.
Why we need your data
We collect your personal data in order:
• to on-board you as a prospective bidder or client;
• to verify your identity and eligibility to participate in Live Public Auctions and other sales processes organised by the AMU;
• to carry out certain verification checks that may be required of us by law;
• to allow you to take part in Live Public Auctions or other sales processes organised by the AMU;
• to manage and assure the integrity of the Live Public Auctions and other sales processes organised by the AMU;
• to send you information about upcoming Live Public Auctions and other sales processes that you may be interested in based on your transaction history;
• to help the AMU to develop its digital offerings and other sales channels;
• to monitor the performance of the AMU’s website and improve user experience;
• to satisfy any legal obligations and compliance requirements under laws and regulations applicable to the AMU and/or the Ministry;
• to protect and defend our rights and property, you, or third parties;
• for other purposes that we will tell you about specifically when you register or provide data about yourself to us.
Who we share your data with
We may share your data with:
• individuals within the Ministry and the AMU;
• any Auctioneer and Appraiser appointed to conduct Live Public Auctions or other sales processes;
• other third parties that are instructed or engaged by the AMU and/or the Ministry to assist with Live Public Auctions and other sales processes;
• third parties involved in the delivery or collection of items sold at auction or through other sales channels, as well as customs authorities and others persons who assist with, or facilitate, sales on behalf of the AMU;
• law enforcement agencies, other government ministries, departments and agencies, and other public bodies (including regulatory bodies) (a) where there is a lawful basis for disclosing/processing your information, or (b) otherwise in our discretion, unless prohibited from doing so by law; and
• to any other person where we are required to do so by law, for example, by court order, or to prevent fraud or other crime.
Our legal basis for processing your data
By registering on this website to participate in Live Public Auctions or other sales processes conducted by the AMU, you are required to provide consent for the processing of your personal data.
We also consider that the processing of personal data that falls within the scope of this Privacy Policy to amount to processing that responds to the legitimate interests of the AMU, the Ministry and third parties involved in Live Public Auctions and other sales processes organised by the AMU.
We will not:
• sell or rent your data to third parties;
• share your data with third parties for marketing purposes; or
• Otherwise use your data for purposes that are not in accordance with this Privacy Policy, the Data Protection Act 2023, or other applicable law.
How long we keep your data
We will only retain your personal data for as long as it is needed for the purposes set out in this document or for as long as the law requires us to.

We design, build and run our systems to make sure that your data is as safe as possible at all stages, both while it is processed and when it is stored.

We are committed to doing all that we can to keep your data secure.
We protect your information using technical, organisational and physical security measures to manage the security risks arising out of processing your personal data. These measures seek to reduce the risk of loss, misuse, unauthorised access, disclosure, and alteration. Please be aware, though, that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable. You remain responsible for protecting your username and password used for registration purposes and for the security of information you transmit to us over the Internet.
We also seek to make sure that any third parties that we deal with keep all personal data they process on our behalf secure.
Your rights
You have the right to request:
• information about how your personal data is processed;
• a copy of that personal data; and
• that anything inaccurate in your personal data is rectified or corrected.
You can also:
• raise an objection about how your personal data is processed;
• request that your personal data is erased in certain circumstances;
• oppose the processing or usage of your personal data for specific purposes; and
• request that we permit usage of your personal data to a third party.
